The Ape debuted in 1948, where any number of bodies could be built on it, the most iconic being the beechwood and masonite-framed Giardinetta (later called the Calessino). The Ape’s adaptability was excellent and any number of variations remained to suit work needs. The initial variation of 8 bodystyles rose to 20 by 1958. The Piaggio Ape was designed as a Vespa-based machine that could be used by farmers, tradesmen, taxi drivers, deliveries, and anyone else that needed to carry people or goods. This Ape Calessino benefits from having the 150cc engine, fitted as standard in 1952, it also has the upgraded cable operated gear change. A complete restoration was carried out in factory correct colors and finishes, making this Ape a wonderful addition to any collection.
